Drawing on deep roots in Miami’s working-class neighborhoods, Nowell’s work explores the intersections of identity, community, and systemic corruption.

The debut novel, The City of Borrowed Souls (Book 1 in the Anita Goodman series), introduces readers to a trans bodega owner who knows her Allapattah neighborhood too well to ignore the bodies appearing in its alleys.

When not writing, Nowell can usually be found driving the length of A1A, looking for the parts of Florida that haven’t been paved over yet.
